Q-Pass sales will begin in early June and run through mid-July. Not sure what a Q-Pass is? Here are a few FAQs to help you out. If you don't see the answer you're looking for, post your question here!

What is a Q-Pass?
It’s the name for our advance sale period. Instead of traditional season tickets, we offer the “Q-Pass,” which let’s you pick and choose which of our season shows you’d like to see.

Why do you call it Q-Pass?
It’s our attempt to be clever. If you’ve ever traveled in England (or are a fan of British comedies) you may have heard the phrase “jump the queue,” meaning “to butt in line.” In England, you might get yelled at for jumping the queue, but here at Kingsbury, you get benefits for doing it. So go ahead – jump right to the front of the line and get your tickets before anyone else.

What does it cost to be a Q-Pass Patron?
It’s free of charge. In fact, it actually saves you money, because you won’t pay handling fees on tickets bought during the Q-Pass Advance Sale period.

Are you crazy?
It’s entirely possible.

Are there any other benefits?
There sure are! By purchasing tickets during the Q-Pass Advance Sale period, you get:
• Same seats for every performance (when available) or best available seats
• Free ticket exchanges to productions with multiple performances
• Advance purchase opportunities (via the Q-News e-mail newsletter) for additional performances throughout the season (this season Q-Pass Patrons got advance ticket offers for Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters, David Copperfield, Odyssey Dance Company’s "Thriller," and more)

How do I buy with a Q-Pass?
You can purchase two ways - online or through the order form in the season brochure. If you have not received a season brochure in the mail and would like to get one, call the box office at 801-581-7100 and we'll send you one. Spelling Bee opened last night to an enthusiastic audience, with guest speller Bill Allred from X96 providing some additional comic relief.

"This American Life" host Ira Glass spoke today, discussing past stories and the power of radio. What did you think of the show?

An upcoming performance is already stirring discussion and even some controversy. The show is called "N*GGER WETB*CK CH*NK" so it's no secret where the controversy comes in. The 3 actors/co-writers say their intent is to dis-arm the words and to use humor to tackle a sensitive subject in the hopes of engaging a wider audience, though many would argue that humor is not the best medium for addressing such serious issues. Kingsbury Hall is hosting events and discussions on and off campus prior to performances, and there is always a wide variety of lectures and panels sponsored by other University departments addressing these topics throughout the year.

The show will also tour to Utah State University, Weber State University and Park City Performing Arts Center. Visit our website for dates, ticket info and full event schedules.

The chairs are being put back in earnest today. It's getting very exciting up there.

The tech windows at the back of the theatre also had to be raised, so the sound and light guys can see over patrons' heads.

When you consider...

...that the bottom of the seats used to be level with the bottom of the doorframe, and heads were approximately at the level of the chairrail on the back wall, you can get a sense of how much of a difference this will make for people in the back rows.

It's also so much nicer looking than that old gray concrete floor.

Word on the street is that they will be ready to re-install the chairs by as soon as Monday!

Had a request for a photo of the lobby wall where the center aisle door used to be. If you weren't familiar with the theater, you'd never know there used to be a door there.

Renovation Begins!

The seating renovation got underway this week, and currently workers are carefully disassembling all the seats in the auditorium and storing them until the flooring is complete. I'll be posting photos and updates as work progresses. (Apologies that some of the photos are slightly blurry - the photos without the flash look better, but I've got to keep a steadier hand.)

The first step was to remove all the named chair arms, which happened Tuesday afternoon after the last event here was finished. Next, the carpet in the aisles was pulled up.

Wednesday, the seat cushions were removed and stacked on the stage.

After that, they began removing the seat backs. Word is that they will be done removing the seat backs and the metal frames by the end of the day on Friday, leaving a completely empty auditorium.

Keep checking back for updates. I'll post photos and info often, particularly when the progress is most notable.

Since writing the above on Thursday, more progress has been made. I haven't been able to post to the blog because of a technical issue with Blogger, but hopefully that will be resolved soon and I'll post this.

The seat backs are about halfway removed now and the metal chair stands are also being removed. The entire left side of the auditorium is now empty.
